Tips! - How to remove LIPSTICK from UPHOLSTERY

Time Saver Maids monthly tips!

It’s not too difficult to remove lipstick stains from upholstery, although at first it cane seem like a nightmare task.

Tools and Materials

• Plastic spoon
• Lighter fluid
• White toothpaste
• Hairspray
• Sponge
• Ammonia
• Isopropyl alcohol

Step 1 - Toothpaste

Use white toothpaste to remove lipstick stains. Put some on the stain and use a clean cloth to scrub and remove the stains.

Step 2 - Lighter Fluid

If the lipstick is caked on, remove all you can with a plastic spoon. Put lighter fluid on a clean cloth and scrub gently to remove lipstick stains.

Step 3 - Alcohol

Isopropyl alcohol is a good item to use to remove lipstick stains. All you need to do is put some on a clean dry cloth and rub the stain. As the alcohol evaporates quickly you might need to add more of it to the cloth to complete the job.

Step 4 - Ammonia

A solution of equal parts water and ammonia is good to use to remove lipstick stains. Put it on the stain using a sponge and scrub the area lightly. Rinse with a cloth that’s been soaked in cold water.

Step 5 - Hairspray

Spray hairspray on the lipstick stain. Leave it for 5 minutes and the take it off with a dry, clean cloth. The stain will come off with it.

Tips! - How to remove COSMETIC STAINS ON CLOTHES - Monthly Tips

It is very easy to remove cosmetic stains on clothes. There are many natural or green methods plus several manufactured stain removers that do a great job.

You Will Need

• Baking soda
• Scrub brush
• Peroxide
• Shout Laundry Stain Remover
• Bleach

Step 1: Scrub

For most any makeup stain, whether it is foundation, eyeshadow, blush or mascara a paste of baking soda and water scrubbed into the stain and allowed to sit overnight will probably remove the stain. Launder the next day in warm water using your normal laundry detergent. Check to see the stain is gone before putting the garment into the dryer. The heat of a dryer will set the stain permanently.

Step 2: Stubborn Stains

Occasionally you may get a stain, such as makeup base, that has mixed with perspiration and its much harder to remove. You will sometimes find this in the neck of a shirt or blouse. This will require a bit of scrubbing with a good laundry stain remover. Apply per manufacturers instructions and allow to sit 24 hours before laundering as above.
Lipstick is also a stubborn stain and should be treated as a grease stain. Use hot water and stain remover and allow it to sit, then launder. If any of the color remains, then bleach the garment in a gallon of water with 1/4 cup of bleach added. Rinse well then launder as usual.

Candle Wax

• For spilled wax on carpets and upholstery, put a brown paper bag over the dried wax and run a hot iron over it. The bag will absorb the hot wax.
• Dried wax on wood floors can be removed by softening the wax with a hair dryer, then removing with paper towels. Wash spot down with a combination of vinegar and water.

Blood Stains

• Put a paste of water and cornstarch, cornmeal or talcum powder on fresh spots. Let dry and brush off.
• Cover fresh or dried stains with meat tenderizer and add cool water. After 15 to 30 minutes, sponge off with cool water.
• Fresh blood on leather? Dab on a little hydrogen peroxide. After it bubbles, wipe it off.
• If you get blood on fabric, quickly wet a long piece of white cotton thread with saliva and place it across the spot. The thread will absorb the blood.
